During last week, four tropical cyclones were active globally.
In the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Erin formed near Cabo Verde on August 11. Rapidly intensifying into the first Category 5 hurricane of the season before an eyewall replacement cycle weakened it into a Category 3 hurricane. Currently, Erin is a Category 4 hurricane expected to recurve near the Eastern Seaboard.
As a nascent wave, Erin caused flooding which killed nine in São Vicente, one of Cabo Verde's northern islands.
In the East Pacific, Tropical Storm Henriette intensified into a hurricane north of Hawaii on August 11 as Tropical Storm Ivo dissipated west of Baja California. Cooler sea surface temperatures caused Henriette to dissipate on August 13.
In the West Pacific, Tropical Storm Podul intensified into a typhoon, striking Taiwan with Category 2-equivelant winds, killing two.
